04Standing in Ngara and the Globe
Ngara and the Globe is the northern edge of the CBD, where the grid loosens and the roads north begin. A flyover, a roundabout, and a market that starts before the light does: that is the street feel here, and it holds all day. The Globe Cinema roundabout is the CBD's northern hinge, the fruit market beside it opens at four in the morning, and Museum Hill is the next rise beyond. The quarter sits 0.81 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 11 minutes on foot in a direct line. Early markets and the walk up to the National Museum are what this quarter is best for.
After dark it is a transport edge rather than an evening one, so cross it by car. The halls and market stalls shut, and the roundabout turns into a place you pass through, not a place you linger. This suits you if you want the fruit market at first light or a base on the northern side of the centre.
