Powered by IMPT

Every booking made through Nairobi Central removes a tonne of carbon.

Not an offset bolted onto the checkout and not a surcharge. The tonne comes out of the commission the hotel already pays, it is retired on a public register, and you choose the project it is retired against.

40 projects on the IMPT register this page draws from
10 countries those projects are in
1 tonne of verified carbon removal per confirmed booking
Nothing added to what the room costs you

01How it works

01 You book a room Search from any page on this site and the booking is made with IMPT, the partner behind the stay search. Same room, same confirmation, nothing added to the bill.
02 The commission pays for a tonne The hotel pays a commission on the booking, as it would on any channel. Part of that buys and retires one tonne of verified carbon removal instead of staying with the middleman.
03 The credit is retired in your name The tonne is retired against a project on the IMPT register, not held or resold, and the retirement is recorded in your account.

02Why a booking site is the place to do this

A night in a hotel has a carbon cost that the traveller has almost no way to act on at the moment they are deciding. The room is already built, the lights are already on, and the choice in front of anyone reading a page like this one is which building to sleep in rather than how that building is heated. The booking, though, is a transaction with margin in it, and margin is the one thing that can be pointed somewhere.

So the tonne is funded out of the hotel commission rather than out of a surcharge. A surcharge asks the reader to pay twice and quietly loses most of them at the last screen; a commission split changes nothing about what a room costs and still retires a real credit. It is the least interesting mechanism that actually works.

03What verified means here

Every project on the register below is issued and tracked by a recognised carbon registry, with a project id, a vintage year and a methodology behind it. A credit is retired once and cannot be sold again, which is the whole point of a registry and the thing that separates a credit from a promise.

This page does not claim that a tonne of removal cancels a night's travel, and nobody should read it that way. Flying to Nairobi, moving around it and sleeping in it all have a cost that a retired credit reduces rather than erases. What it does say is that the money exists, that it comes out of the commission, and that the retirement is on a public register.

05Questions

Does this make my room more expensive?+

No. The tonne is paid for out of the commission the hotel already pays on the booking, so the rate you are quoted is the rate you would be quoted anywhere else.

Who chooses the project?+

You do, from your IMPT account. The register below is the current pool; it changes as projects are added and as vintages are issued.

What happens if I cancel?+

A credit is retired against a confirmed, completed booking. A cancelled booking pays no commission and funds no tonne.

Can I see the retirement?+

Yes. Retirements are recorded against your IMPT account with the project and the vintage they were made against.
