A 3 star serviced suite block on Mwanzi Road in Westlands, next to Westgate Mall. It suits longer stays that want a kitchen, a lift and parking, and anyone who means to spend the day in the CBD on foot should look elsewhere.
01What it is
The Landmark Suites Westlands Nairobi Next to Westgate Mall is a 3 star property of apartments rather than single rooms, and the listed facilities say so: kitchen, kitchenette, microwave and refrigerator in the units, with balcony, desk, air conditioning, fan, TV, telephone, safe, iron and board, hairdryer, toiletries, towels and a shower. Cleaning and housekeeping come in, and so do laundry and dry cleaning. The list runs long on services and short on the small print: the facilities as supplied do not say how the apartments are laid out, how many bedrooms any of them have, whether the kitchen comes with anything to cook in, or what the pool and the fitness centre are actually like, and none of it has been checked against the property itself.
For a stay of several days, The Landmark Suites Westlands Nairobi Next to Westgate Mall gives you the machinery of an apartment with the desk and services of a hotel: 24 hour front desk, 24 hour security, concierge, express check in, lifts, luggage storage, free wifi, parking and a car rental service. There is a restaurant, a bar or snack bar, a pool bar, a lounge, room service and breakfast in the room. It suits anyone who wants to be in Westlands with their own kitchen and a car, and it also suits families, since family rooms and non smoking rooms are both listed. It does not suit anyone whose trip is the CBD on foot, because that is not the area it is in.

04Standing outside the ten quarters
Before you book, be clear about where these hotels are. They sit well outside the centre, in the inner suburbs, and they are not in any of the ten quarters this site covers. Biashara Street and City Market is only the nearest of those quarters, which is not the same as being in it. You are in the wider city here, and every trip into the Central Business District is a journey in and out.
The market quarter itself is narrow, shaded, and the only part of the centre where the shops are still one-family wide. The oldest retail streets in the city: Biashara for cloth and haberdashery, Muindi Mbingu for flowers, and the 1930s City Market hall behind them for produce, curios and a fish counter. Jamia Mosque's three silver domes close the block. It is best for kikoi and kitenge cloth, curios without the tour-bus markup, and an hour of architecture. After dark it is a daytime quarter: the halls shut in the late afternoon and the streets empty with them. It lies 0.63 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 8 minutes on foot in a direct line.

If you want the kitchen, the parking and the lift rather than a room, this is the property to book on this side of town. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.
Facts on this page come from the booking supplier's record: star class, address, photographs and facility list. Guest scores come from verified stays. Nobody from this site has stayed here; the quarter copy around it is this site's own.
06Questions
Where exactly is this property?+
On Mwanzi Road in Westlands, next to Westgate Mall, in Greater Nairobi rather than the Central Business District. It is 3.08 km from Biashara Street and City Market, which is the nearest of the ten quarters this site covers, so it is a different part of town from the quarter this site is really about.
What does the property actually list?+
Apartments with kitchen, kitchenette, microwave and refrigerator, plus balcony, air conditioning, fan, desk, safe, TV and telephone. The building lists a restaurant, bar, lounge, pool, fitness centre, free wifi, free parking, 24 hour front desk and 24 hour security. It does not list the size or layout of the apartments themselves.
How do you get into the centre from Westlands?+
The property is 3.58 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 45 minutes on foot in a direct line. Driving there means traffic and somewhere to leave the car. Nothing here is priced, so work out the cost of getting in and out yourself before you commit to the location.
What does the guest score mean?+
It has a guest score of 4.4 out of 5 from 441 reviews. That is a settled, positive average from a large number of stays rather than a handful of recent ones. It says nothing about the CBD, which is not where this property sits, so read it as a verdict on the accommodation.
