A four star hotel on George Padmore Road, out on the ridge in Greater Nairobi. It is built for the car and the conference room. If you want the centre on foot, this is the wrong side of the city. If you are here to work, park and sleep, it does the job.
01What it is
The Crooner Lounge lists four star facilities. The useful ones are practical: free parking and a garage, free wifi, a 24 hour front desk with security, air conditioning, lifts, laundry and dry cleaning, a business centre, a fitness centre, a spa, a garden, a terrace and a salon. There is a restaurant, a bar and lounge, a night club, room service and breakfast in the room. Apartments and family rooms come with kitchen or kitchenette, fridge, microwave, oven, toaster, washing machine and cot. The thin part is the rest of the list, which reads like a supplier dump. Archery, horse riding, aerobics and bike rental are not things you can plan a Nairobi stay around.
What that adds up to for you: a working hotel at the quieter end of a city. The Crooner Lounge gives you a car, a room, a desk and food without fuss, and the conference and banquet space carries the place. It suits someone with a reason to be on this ridge, a meeting, a family stay in an apartment, a night to break a drive. It does not suit anyone who wants the Central Business District on foot, or who wants a bar and a street to walk in the evening. The weather is not the problem. The distance is.

04Standing outside the ten quarters
These hotels are not in Upper Hill and Community, and they are not in any of the ten quarters of the centre this site covers. They sit a long way out, in the wider city, and Upper Hill and Community is only the nearest of the ten quarters to them, which is not the same as being in it. Treat the quarter as a reference point, not an address. Anything you want in the CBD means travelling in and out.
The quarter itself is the western ridge above the centre: new concrete on a ridge, built for the car and the conference room. It is not the CBD proper but the ridge immediately above it, and the place most of the CBD's office space has been moving to since the 2000s: the tallest towers in the country, the big hospitals, the aid agencies, and an expressway ramp to the airport. It is best for meetings, a quiet night close in, and a fast run to the airport, and after dark it is safe and dull: hotel bars, and a ride anywhere else. The quarter lies 1.9 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 24 minutes on foot in a direct line.

Book The Crooner Lounge early if your dates sit near a conference, because the banquet and business side drives demand on this ridge. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.
Facts on this page come from the booking supplier's record: star class, address, photographs and facility list. Guest scores come from verified stays. Nobody from this site has stayed here; the quarter copy around it is this site's own.
06Questions
Where exactly is The Crooner Lounge?+
On George Padmore Road, in Greater Nairobi, on the ridge outside the centre. It is 13.13 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 165 minutes on foot in a direct line. The street is new concrete built for cars and conferences, so plan on driving or taking a car rather than walking in.
Is it close to the Central Business District?+
No. It sits 11.34 km from Upper Hill and Community, which is the nearest of the ten quarters this site covers, and further from the CBD itself. If your days are built around the centre, stay there. If they are built around a meeting on this ridge, the position works.
What can you actually use at the property?+
Parking and a garage, wifi, air conditioning, a 24 hour desk, security, business centre, gym, spa, salon, restaurant, bar, night club, room service and breakfast. Apartments and family rooms add kitchens or kitchenettes with fridge, microwave, oven, toaster and washing machine. Some listed activities are filler and not worth booking around.
How do you check availability for The Crooner Lounge?+
Use app.impt.io. Availability and room type show there, and most rooms can be cancelled free. If your travel dates are fixed around a conference or a family visit, look early, because the business and banquet trade keeps the useful room types moving on this side of the city.
