A five star Hilton property on Peponi Road in Greater Nairobi, well away from the centre and its evening emptiness. The list is long and covers most of what a full hotel should. What decides it is the address: this is a hotel to stay in and be driven from, not a base for walking the centre.
01What it is
Kwetu Nairobi Curio Collection By Hilton lists the full apparatus of a five star hotel: 24 hour front desk, 24 hour security, concierge, express check in, currency exchange, laundry and dry cleaning, luggage storage, lifts, free parking, free wifi and a car rental desk. Rooms come with air conditioning, balcony, bath and shower, bathrobe, slippers, toiletries, hairdryer, iron and board, safe, desk, minibar, refrigerator, microwave, coffee, TV and telephone. Food runs from breakfast and breakfast in room through lunch, room service, restaurants and bars. There is an outdoor pool with a pool bar, a fitness centre, a garden and a terrace, plus banquet and family rooms, cots and wheelchair access. Where the list is thin: it is a hotel list, with nothing about the neighbourhood around it.
Kwetu Nairobi Curio Collection By Hilton is a self contained five star hotel on Peponi Road in Greater Nairobi. Everything a guest needs is inside the gate: security around the clock, a desk that never closes, several places to eat and drink, a pool, a gym, parking and a car rental service. That makes it suit guests with business in the city who will be driven in and out, families who want space and facilities, and anyone who prefers a managed compound to a street address. It does not suit travellers who want to walk out of the door into the centre. The centre is a daytime quarter, the halls shut in the late afternoon and the streets empty with them.

04Standing outside the ten quarters
Before you book, be clear about where these hotels are. They sit well outside the centre, in the inner suburbs, and they are not in any of the ten quarters this site covers. Biashara Street and City Market is only the nearest of those quarters, which is not the same as being in it. You are in the wider city here, and every trip into the Central Business District is a journey in and out.
The market quarter itself is narrow, shaded, and the only part of the centre where the shops are still one-family wide. The oldest retail streets in the city: Biashara for cloth and haberdashery, Muindi Mbingu for flowers, and the 1930s City Market hall behind them for produce, curios and a fish counter. Jamia Mosque's three silver domes close the block. It is best for kikoi and kitenge cloth, curios without the tour-bus markup, and an hour of architecture. After dark it is a daytime quarter: the halls shut in the late afternoon and the streets empty with them. It lies 0.63 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 8 minutes on foot in a direct line.

Book Kwetu Nairobi Curio Collection By Hilton if you want a five star hotel with everything on site and you are content to reach the centre by car rather than on foot. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.
Facts on this page come from the booking supplier's record: star class, address, photographs and facility list. Guest scores come from verified stays. Nobody from this site has stayed here; the quarter copy around it is this site's own.

Where is Kwetu Nairobi Curio Collection By Hilton?+
It is on Peponi Road in Greater Nairobi. It stands 5.79 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 73 minutes on foot in a direct line, and 5.27 km from Biashara Street and City Market, which is the nearest of the ten quarters this site covers.
What does the hotel list for guests?+
A 24 hour front desk and security, concierge, express check in, currency exchange, laundry, lifts, free parking and free wifi, plus a car rental service. Rooms have air conditioning, balcony, bath, minibar, refrigerator, microwave and safe. There is an outdoor pool with a pool bar and a fitness centre.
What is it like getting into the centre from Greater Nairobi?+
You do not walk it. The distances put the centre well beyond a stroll, so plan on a car, a shuttle or a taxi. The hotel runs a shuttle service and a car rental desk, which is the practical way to reach the city and return.
What does the guest score mean?+
It is 4.6 out of 5 from 375 reviews. That is a strong score across a large number of reviewers, and it tells you the hotel delivers what its facility list promises. It says nothing about the surrounding streets, which are a separate matter.
