Kairos Apartment is a four star apartment block on George Padmore Road, on a ridge of new concrete built for the car and the conference room. It suits drivers and longer stays. If you want the centre on foot, it does not.
01What it is
Kairos Apartment lists the machinery of a longer stay rather than a hotel stay: apartments with a kitchen, microwave, refrigerator, toaster and washing machine, plus bathroom, shower, WC, towels and toiletries. There is free wifi, a desk, a safe, a TV, lifts, non smoking rooms, family rooms and cleaning. Outside the room you get a fitness centre, restaurant and bar, buffet, terrace, patio and balcony, free car parking, car rental and a shuttle. Laundry, first aid and 24 hour security are listed. The thin parts are the golf course and the playground, which will not matter to most people booking a bed here.
What that adds up to is a self contained block on Greater Nairobi's ridge, where the day runs on the car and the conference room. Kairos Apartment works if you are driving, staying more than a night or two, or coming for work nearby and want a kitchen and parking rather than a lobby. It does not work if you want to walk out to restaurants and bars in the evening. The street is new concrete, built for the car. After dark it is safe and dull: hotel bars, and a ride anywhere else.

04Standing outside the ten quarters

The ridge above the centre is new concrete, built for the car and the conference room: the tallest towers in the country, the big hospitals, the aid agencies, and an expressway ramp to the airport. It is best for meetings, a quiet night close in, and a fast run to the airport, and after dark it is safe and dull, hotel bars, and a ride anywhere else.
