InterContinental Nairobi is a five star hotel in City Square, beside KICC and the law courts, with an outdoor pool, spa, sauna, gym and business centre. It suits anyone whose day is in the Central Business District and who wants the centre on foot rather than a drive into it.
01What it is
InterContinental Nairobi is a five star hotel in City Square, and its list is the list of a full service city hotel. Rooms come with bathroom and shower, free wifi across the property, free internet in the lounge, a safe, and free newspapers. There is an outdoor pool, a spa, a sauna, a barber and beauty salon, a bar and lounge, coffee, a terrace, and a gift shop. For work there is a business centre, meeting rooms, a ballroom, multilingual staff, and wedding services. Practical things are covered: 24 hour front desk, concierge, bell boy, ATM, luggage storage, laundry and dry cleaning, lifts, free car parking, coach parking, babysitting, and wheelchair access. Smoking area and free car parking are on the list.
What that adds up to is a hotel built for people whose Nairobi is the Central Business District. InterContinental Nairobi is 0.43 km from the centre of City Square and KICC, and 0.63 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 8 minutes on foot in a direct line, so the courts, the ministries and the office towers are a walk rather than a commute. The pool, spa and sauna give you somewhere to land after a working day, and the business centre and meeting rooms mean you can hold the meeting where you sleep. It suits business travellers, conference attendees and anyone who wants the centre on foot. It does not suit people who want the centre at night: this part of the city is institutional and empty after office hours, so plan on the hotel bar or a ride elsewhere for dinner.

04Standing in City Square and KICC
This hotel sits in City Square and KICC, the civic centre of the grid. The streets here are open paving, flags, and the one tower in Nairobi that everybody can name: the state's block, Parliament, the Supreme Court, City Hall, the Kenyatta mausoleum and the 1973 conference centre whose amphitheatre roof and rooftop deck give the best view of the city there is. It is best for the rooftop view and the shortest walk between the civic landmarks. The quarter lies 0.53 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 7 minutes on foot in a direct line.
After dark it is institutional and empty after office hours. Go in daylight, when the deck is open. If you want somewhere to eat or drink in the evening, this is not it. It suits anyone here for the KICC viewing deck, Parliament or the Supreme Court, and it does not suit anyone who wants company after five.

Book InterContinental Nairobi when your business is in the CBD and you would rather walk to it than sit in traffic getting to it. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.

06Questions
Where exactly is InterContinental Nairobi?+
It is in City Square, on City Hall Way, the quarter that holds KICC, City Hall and the law courts. It is 0.43 km from the centre of City Square and KICC, so the offices, ministries and conference halls around that square are within a short walk of the lobby.
What does the hotel have on site?+
An outdoor pool, spa, sauna, barber and beauty salon, bar and lounge, terrace, gift shop, business centre, meeting rooms, ballroom and wedding services. Also a 24 hour front desk, concierge, bell boy, ATM, luggage storage, laundry service, lifts, free car parking, babysitting, and wheelchair access.
Can I get into the centre from the hotel without a car?+
Yes. The hotel is 0.63 km from Kenyatta Avenue at Moi Avenue, which is 8 minutes on foot in a direct line. The streets between City Square and that junction are the business core, so the walk takes you past the offices and banks rather than around them.
What does the guest score mean?+
It has a guest score of 4.5 out of 5 from 5334 reviews. That is a large number of reviews for one property and a consistently high result, so the standard is not the guesswork of a handful of stays but a pattern across thousands of them.
